Vientiane again

a Beautiful skyWell we are back in Vientiane again for two nights until we go back to Malaysia. I am enjoying the croissants and the coffee as well as the Laap… or as the Thai’s like to call the larb.. mmm salty/sweet/sour… slightly crunchy and delicious.

Sticky rice or not cooked enough rice as one member of our party likes to call it is also V delish…. I love the container called a Kong that it arrives in and its glutinous nature.. whats not to love and I totally disagree with the its not cooked enough idea…

Today as we traveled from Vang Vien home of the endless friends episode we once more had a sweat box of a time.

Croissant season…open!

A long awaited croissantWell Sonkran is over and the water fights have stopped thankfully… it was getting tiresome carrying things in plastic so they didnt get wet. Some of the excellent pattiseries have opened again and so this morning I had a croissant ordinaire…mmm delicious.   We are off to Luang Prabang today… flying for $78 USD.. much better than a windy road.

Sonkran

armed and dangerous!!

armed and dangerous!!

The biggest water fight in Asia. We landed in Laos to find that we were in the middle of the Buddhist new year celebration’s. What fun imagine being able to pour water on anyone you see. No fights ensue unless they are water fights which involve whole hotels or families. It’s great. Here is a picture of an old man getting into it as a big water warrior.

Biscotti

Serious AnnaWell, up early this morning to make bread and to make biscotti… mmm almond biscotti not quite as nice as pistachio biscotti but almost as good.

Well today we are off to Brick fields to the blind masssueses and then to the Gardens to replace my burkini bottoms that Dad has commandeered for sailing.

Dim Sum is fun

A selection of Dim Sum Dishes  Well today is Easter Sunday and its the parents first day in KL. We decided to have Dim Sum and we went to Yuen Garden Dim Sum House, at Bandar Puchong Jaya.

I have attached some pics. The Dim Sum was ok… there was no Chili oil:( and the service was less than attentive. The stares were all there though as we were the only westerners in the house and didn’t we feel awkward!! I would recommend the Sui mie as it was delicious.

Strangely the tea that we were given in mugs everyone else got a tea pot I am not sure why…

The parents arrive

Well the house has been a buzz with work this morning cleaning it to within an inch of its life. My guests have been helping and the smell of clean washing is divine.

Today we had a small visitor… a tiny bird that has been helping itself to a some of an aquarium filter… to make a nest… it is very chirpy and cute… and quite tenacious.. it has made the previously normal filter very furry!

Now I am off to mega mall to buy some non hallal sausage… and some Jusco laudry detergent… it smells lovely.. I think that I am a little addicted to it ( the smell)

till later

Schools out…

Well school is out for Easter! The last day going out with a bang as usual with to much to do, too many kids and tearful leavers. But now I am free.

The parental units arrive on Saturday… the caraway seeds are so close that I can almost taste them… not to mention the massive hugs that I will give them. Isn’t it funny how things change… When I was a Kid my Mother through the gratuitous use of “the silent treatment” drilled into her her kids always phone. So much so now I have an almost Pavlovian response to airports with my fingers itching to text all and sundry with my intended destination and time that I am staying away…. when I arrive at my destination the same urges almost cripple me again…  Mum  and dad have no such qualms… with the text I received today saying “arrived in Singapore off to bed now”  I responded… no response back. I know that Dad has international roaming perhaps his inherited Scottish penny pinching has won a skirmish in the war with mums love of the children…. for now

Hello world!

Greetings and thanks for dropping by.

This is my brand new site. Shiny isn’t it. :)

Practice makes progress and so this site should develop over time. Please be patient as I really did not know about this site as it was a suprise gift seeing as I did not get the Tandoori Oven that I had my heart set on for my recent birthday.

The plan is that I will write all the articles and bits and pieces that I scatter all over the internet, here first and then link to them on the various places I like to hang out online.

Some of you may already know me from my hubpages which are linked to over on the right hand side of this page and for new friends the following is my into similar to the one on my hubpages.

I am an Expat in Malaysia who previously had a rather gushy profile blurb. Here is a more thought out version.

I am an avid reader and cook. I love living in a country where food is so important to well, seemingly everyone. There are many opportunities to learn new things here and there are a number of new tastes and spices to add to my collection.

I enjoy hubbing the most about food (I know surprising huh) and I enjoy answering requests as they fire my imagination.

I aim to improve my addition of pictures to my hubs to spice them up!
